CBC blood test in Abu Dhabi: what it measures
Arranging a CBC blood test in Abu Dhabi? Check whether the request is for a complete blood count alone or includes a differential and other investigations. The aim is to collect the requested information and return it to the clinician who needs it—not to explain every symptom from a single flagged number.

Does my order need a CBC with differential?
A CBC describes blood cells, including red cells, white cells and platelets, with measures such as haemoglobin. A differential adds information about white-cell types. Share the exact request with the provider rather than assuming all packages contain the same components.
- Use the ordering clinician's test name or code.
- Ask whether a differential is included when it was requested.

What should be checked before the collection?
A CBC on its own generally needs no special preparation. Additional tests in the same order may have fasting or timing instructions. Give the collector the whole request, mention previous collection difficulties and follow the instructions supplied for that combined order.
- Confirm whether the proposed home or centre collection suits the request.
- Do not fast or alter medicines merely because the order includes blood tests.
Who will review the blood-count pattern?
Keep the full report, including units and the laboratory's reference ranges. A clinician considers the pattern alongside the reason for testing, symptoms and previous results. A high or low cell count alone does not identify its cause or establish which treatment is needed.
- Ask whether previous reports would help assess a trend.
- Clarify how any important finding will reach the ordering clinician.
Common questions
Is a full blood count the same as a CBC?
The terms complete blood count, CBC and full blood count are often used for closely related cell-count testing, but confirm the exact requested components.
Does a CBC check iron stores or explain every cause of tiredness?
No. A CBC does not measure iron stores: ferritin and other iron studies are separate tests. Blood-cell patterns may prompt further investigation, but tiredness has many possible causes. Review symptoms and the CBC with a clinician rather than adding supplements or a broad panel yourself.
