PT/INR testing in Abu Dhabi: agree the follow-up plan

PT/INR measures aspects of blood clotting. It may be requested for a particular investigation or to monitor certain anticoagulant treatment. The important booking detail is not only when blood is collected: it is who receives the result and what you should do next.

Confirm the exact monitoring request

PT is a clotting time and INR is a standardized ratio derived from it. A target appropriate for one patient may not apply to another. Tell the team why the test was requested and keep the written order; this is not a general test that detects or rules out every dangerous clot.

Do not improvise medicine changes

Provide the names of prescribed medicines, supplements and recent changes. Ask the prescribing team about collection timing and what to take on the day. Do not stop an anticoagulant, change a dose or copy another person’s INR target because of advice in a comment or a price-package description.

Arrange a reachable results contact

Before leaving collection, confirm when results are expected, who reviews them and how urgent instructions will reach you. If the agreed reporting time passes, contact the responsible team rather than assuming silence means normal. Significant bleeding, collapse or suspected emergency symptoms need urgent help, not a routine result enquiry.

Common questions

Is my INR target the same as everyone else’s?

No. The prescribing clinician sets the relevant plan for your condition.

Can I skip treatment before collection?

Only follow instructions from the responsible prescribing team.

Does the booking include treatment adjustment?

Do not assume so; confirm who is responsible for reviewing and acting on the result.

Sources and information limits

Sources support general medical principles, not the UAE booking policies or service availability. Confirm instructions and local arrangements with the care provider. The update date does not claim clinician review.

Questions before arranging an appointment?

Enquire about the next steps and availability. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or diagnosis and is not an emergency service.
